It’s officially Oregon Wine Month! AND BONUS – it also happens to be International Sauvignon Blanc Day. To help with your celebrations, I have a few delicious recommendations for picking out the perfect Oregon Sauvignon Blanc.
Oregon Sauvignon Blanc you say? Yes! While New Zealand has long been the go-to for many Sauv Blanc drinkers, there are some Oregon winemakers wild enough to give it a go. And let me tell you, there are some darn good Sauvs coming from this state.
Here are a few of my favs:
- Looking for a thirst-quenching acid bomb? J. Christopher’s Willamette Valley Sauvignon Blanc is zesty, clean and fresh. $25
- Want something more complex? Upper Five Wine’s Acacia Sauvignon Blanc from Southern Oregon is made in acacia wood barrels, giving it a creamy texture and flavors of lemon cream pie. $22
- Bubbles more your style? Roots Wine Company makes a stellar sparkling version of Sauvignon Blanc. Smells of cinnamon and sweet grass. $25
What is Sauvignon Blanc?
Sauvignon Blanc is a white grape varietal that typically produces light, dry white wine with high acidity. With aromas ranging from grass, and green bell pepper to gooseberry and tropical fruit, it’s an easy-drinking patio wine that is sure to quench your thirst on a hot day. Sauvignon Blanc grows well in cool to moderate climates, like Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
